EXECUTIVE ORDERS

(2)  The Commission shall encourage, develop, and
implement special events and projects throughout the State
to commemorate the Columbus quincentenary.

(3)  The Commission shall promote and foster locally
sponsored activities throughout the State.

(4)  The Commission shall coordinate with other states
in the mid-Atlantic region to focus attention on and further
the efforts to protect the Chesapeake Bay.

(5)  The Commission shall submit reports to the
Governor as necessary.

EXECUTIVE ORDER OF JANUARY 11, 1989

GOVERNOR'S COMMISSION ON MARYLAND MILITARY MONUMENTS

WHEREAS, Maryland is a State with a rich military history, a fact
evidenced by the placement of military monuments throughout
the State; and

WHEREAS, The citizens of Maryland have made heroic contributions
to military engagements both in the State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, Monuments which recognize Maryland's military history
and the contributions of its citizens should be preserved
and protected for the education of all; and

WHEREAS, Many of these monuments have fallen into a state of
disrepair and need restoration;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, WILLIAM DONALD SCHAEFER, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE
OF MARYLAND, BY VIRTUE OF THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME BY THE
CONSTITUTION AND LAWS OF MARYLAND, HEREBY PROCLAIM THE
FOLLOWING ORDER, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY:

A.  There is a Governor's Commission on Maryland Military
Monuments.

B.  Membership and Procedures.

(1)  The Governor's Commission consists of up to 18
members appointed by the Governor.

(2)  The Chairperson shall be the Maryland Secretary
of State.
