by local jurisdictions; requiring certain disclosure by a
builder under certain circumstances; requiring that
installations of certain sprinkler systems meet certain
standards; requiring a certain report to be made if a fire
occurs in a dwelling equipped with a sprinkler system; and
generally relating to the option of installing sprinkler
systems in new single-family residential dwellings.

Article 38A - Fires and Investigations
Section 12B to be under the new subheading "Sprinkler
Systems"

Preamble
WHEREAS, A properly installed and operating sprinkler system
effectively helps to control the spread of fire, thereby allowing
more time for evacuation of a building, and helping to reduce
fire related injuries, deaths, and property damage; and
WHEREAS, A sprinkler system by itself cannot adequately
protect life and property from fire related damage, injury, and
death; and
WHEREAS, In addition to and in concert with strategically
located fire stations and equipment, adequately staffed fire
apparatus and fire departments, and properly trained personnel,
the installation of sprinkler systems would have a marked impact
on life and safety; now, therefore,
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

(A) IN THIS SECTION, "SPRINKLER SYSTEM" MEANS A DEVICE
THAT:
(1) OPENS AUTOMATICALLY BY OPERATION OF A HEAT
RESPONSIVE RELEASING MECHANISM;
