JOINT RESOLUTIONS

541 of the Code in assuring compliance with the energy conservation provisions of the
BOCA Code;

(10)   Low income weatherization programs and means to accomplish the goal
of weatherizing dwellings;

(11)   Energy conservation through recycling and purchase of recycled
materials; and

(12)   The effectiveness of the Residential Conservation Program and any
efforts to improve its operation; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the initial report of the Task Force shall address each of the
issues listed above and shall include recommendations for any legislation, regulations, or
budgetary initiatives necessary to implement the recommendations; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Task Force shall continue to address the above issues and
shall issue a final report to the Governor and General Assembly by December 1, 1990; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded by the Department of
Legislative Reference to the Honorable William Donald Schaefer, Governor of Maryland;
the Honorable Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr., President of the Senate of Maryland; and the
Honorable R. Clayton Mitchell, Jr., Speaker of the House of Delegates.

(House Joint Resolution No. 16)

A House Joint Resolution concerning

Maryland Drug Information Center and Hotline

FOR the purpose of encouraging the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy to
establish a statewide drug information center and consumer hotline for patients and
health care providers to provide information regarding the appropriate use of drugs.

WHEREAS, Individuals 65 years of age and older are the fastest growing segment of
this county's population; and

WHEREAS, The United States Food and Drug Administration has reported that
almost one-third of all geriatric admissions to hospitals are because of adverse reactions
to drugs; and

WHEREAS, Most of these adverse drug reactions and interactions could be avoided
given the current state of knowledge about geriatric drugs; and

WHEREAS, The federal government acknowledged the importance of drug therapy
to the elderly through the passage of the Medicare Catastrophic Coverage Act of 1988 that
provides an outpatient drug benefit for the elderly; and

WHEREAS, This Act requests the federal government to establish a program to
