SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1989.

AN ACT concerning

Maryland Cancer Registry - Data Exchange

FOR the purpose of authorizing the Department of the Environment
to provide certain cancer information to certain
out-of-state agencies under certain circumstances.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Environment

1-405.

(a)  The Secretary shall investigate:

(1)  The influence of locality, employment, habit, and
other conditions on health; and

(2)  The causes of diseases and mortality to the
extent that they may relate to environmental factors.

(b)  The Secretary may adopt procedures to obtain
information about cancers that are caused by carcinogens and
toxic substances and about the incidence of these diseases.

(C) NOTWITHSTANDING ANY OTHER PROVISION OF LAW, THE
DEPARTMENT MAY PROVIDE PATIENT-IDENTIFYING INFORMATION FOR
