DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SERVICES - BUDGETARY
RESPONSIBILITIES FOR GOVERNMENT HOUSE
WHEREAS, The State of Maryland has an historic and significant
structure in Government House, the official residence of the
Chief Executives of this State; and
WHEREAS, This imposing all-brick structure, located in the most
important of all places in Annapolis between Church Circle
and State Circle, plays host to the official State social
and political functions for which such a residence is
required; and
WHEREAS, The continued care and maintenance of this structure is
the responsibility of the Department of General Services,
which provides those services to all other buildings in the
Annapolis complex; and
WHEREAS, All housekeeping, upkeep, and other responsibilities for
Government House are borne by the Department of General
Services, and that Department has the administrative staff
capable of supporting Government House; and
WHEREAS, Given those responsibilities, it is appropriate to
return the budget for Government House to the Department of
General Services;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, WILLIAM DONALD SCHAEFER, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE
OF MARYLAND, BY VIRTUE OF THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME BY THE
CONSTITUTION AND LAWS OF MARYLAND, HEREBY RESCIND EXECUTIVE
ORDER 01.01.1979.03, AND DO PROMULGATE THE FOLLOWING
EXECUTIVE ORDER, EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 1987:
A. The operation and maintenance of Government House
Program presently assigned to the Executive Department -
Governor is hereby reassigned to the Department of General
Services.
B. Any unexpended appropriation in the custody or control
of the Executive Department - Governor for the purpose of
financing this program shall be transferred by approved
budget amendment to the Department of General Services.
