A House Joint Resolution concerning
The Regional Library Resource Center Programs
FOR the purpose of requesting the Governor to appoint a
commission to study and make recommendations concerning the
Regional Library Resource Center Programs.
WHEREAS, In 1971 the General Assembly provided for the
establishment and finding funding of Regional Library Resource
Centers in nonmetropolitan regions of this State; and
WHEREAS, The purpose of these resource centers is to provide
through mutual cooperation and coordination, books, information
and other materials and services or resources that an individual
library cannot provide adequately by itself; and
WHEREAS, Three regional library resource centers have been
established since 1973 in Southern Maryland, the Eastern Shore,
and Western Maryland; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
Governor is requested to appoint a commission to ascertain if the
services mandated in the law are adequate to meet the needs of
the regions, and to ascertain if there are sufficient resources
to perform the services; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the commission be composed of:
(1) 2 members of the House of Delegates, appointed by the
Speaker of the House; and 2 members of the Senate of Maryland,
appointed by the President of the Senate;
(2) A representative of the Department of Budget and Fiscal
Planning, a representative of the State Department of Education,
and a representative of the Maryland Advisory Council on
Libraries; and
