SUBTITLE 1. DEFINITIONS; GENERAL PROVISIONS
14.5-101.

(A) IN THIS TITLE THE FOLLOWING WORDS HAVE THE MEANINGS
INDICATED.

(B) "BOARD" MEANS THE STATE BOARD OF MEDICAL EXAMINERS,
ESTABLISHED UNDER § 14-201 OF THIS ARTICLE.

(C) "CERTIFICATE" MEANS A CERTIFICATE ISSUED BY THE BOARD
TO A PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT UNDER THIS TITLE.

(D) "COMMISSION" MEANS THE COMMISSION ON MEDICAL DISCIPLINE
OF MARYLAND, ESTABLISHED UNDER § 14-401 OF THIS ARTICLE.

(E) "COMMITTEE" MEANS THE PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT ADVISORY
COMMITTEE.

(F) "DELEGATED MEDICAL ACTS" MEANS ACTIVITIES THAT
CONSTITUTE THE PRACTICE OF MEDICINE DELEGATED BY A PHYSICIAN
UNDER TITLE 14 OF THIS ARTICLE.

(G) "JOB DESCRIPTION" MEANS A DOCUMENT EXECUTED BY A
PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT AND PHYSICIAN THAT HAS BEEN APPROVED UNDER
THIS TITLE TO PERMIT THE DELEGATION OF MEDICAL ACTS TO A
CERTIFIED PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT.

(H) "NATIONAL CERTIFYING EXAMINATION" MEANS AN EXAMINATION
OFFERED BY A NATIONAL ORGANIZATION, WHICH CERTIFIES PHYSICIAN
ASSISTANTS AS HAVING ACHIEVED A CERTAIN LEVEL OF TRAINING.

(I) "PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT" MEANS AN INDIVIDUAL WHO IS
CERTIFIED UNDER THIS TITLE TO PERFORM DELEGATED MEDICAL ACTS
UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A PHYSICIAN.

(J) "PRACTICE AS A PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT" MEANS THE
PERFORMANCE OF MEDICAL ACTS DELEGATED TO A PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT
UNDER THIS TITLE.

(K) "SUPERVISING PHYSICIAN" MEANS A PHYSICIAN WHO HAS BEEN
APPROVED BY THE BOARD TO SUPERVISE 1 OR MORE PHYSICIAN
ASSISTANTS.

(L) "SUPERVISION" MEANS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF A PHYSICIAN
TO EXERCISE CONTROL AND PROVIDE DIRECTION TO ON SITE SUPERVISION

OR IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE DIRECTION FOR PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS

PERFORMING DELEGATED MEDICAL ACTS.
14.5-102.

(A) A PHYSICIANS ASSISTANT MAY NOT PRACTICE :

(1) WITHIN THE SCOPE OF PRACTICE OF ANY OF THE
FOLLOWING HEALTH OCCUPATIONS AUTHORIZED UNDER THIS ARTICLE:
