CHAPTER 696

(House Bill 1338)

AN ACT concerning

Asbestos Removal - Public Units - Licenses

FOR the purpose of requiring public units to be licensed by the
Department of Health and Mental Hygiene before the public
unit removes or encapsulates any asbestos in the State;
defining the term "public unit"; and subjecting public units
to existing provisions of law relating to asbestos removal.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article - Health - Environmental

Section 6-409, 6-410, 6-411, 6-413, and 6-419

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1982 Volume and 1984 Supplement)

BY repealing and reenacting, without amendments,

Article - Health - Environmental

Section 6-422

BY adding to

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

6-401.

(D) "PUBLIC UNIT" INCLUDES:

(1) ANY AGENCY OR UNIT OF STATE GOVERNMENT;
(2) ANY POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OF THE STATE;

(3) SCHOOLS; AND

(4) ANY OTHER PUBLIC ENTITY.
