AN ACT concerning
Commission on Afro-American History and Culture
FOR the purpose of providing that the terms of the members of the
Commission on Afro-American History and Culture are
staggered in a certain manner after a certain date.
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
Article 41 - Governor - Executive and Administrative
Departments
Section 409(b)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article 41 - Governor - Executive and Administrative

409.
(b) (1) The Commission shall consist of nine members
appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the
Senate for terms of .4 years each. THE TERMS OF MEMBERS ARE
STAGGERED AS REQUIRED BY THE TERMS PROVIDED FOR MEMBERS OF THE
COUNCIL COMMISSION ON JULY 1, 1985.
(2) Any Commissioner may be reappointed, except that
any Commissioner who has served two consecutive 4 year terms may
not be reappointed until at least 1 year after the expiration of
that Commissioner's prior tenure.
(3) If for any reason a Commissioner fails to serve
or complete any term, the Governor with the advice and consent of
the Senate, shall appoint a successor to serve for the remainder
of the term.
(4) The appointees shall represent the entire
Maryland community, and they shall have knowledge of
Afro-American culture and history; be sensitive to the problems
of minority communities; and be connected with agencies working
to integrate minority history and culture into the history of
Maryland and our American culture.
