SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Education

18-802.

(c)  Each recipient of a medical scholarship awarded under
this section shall:

(1)  Have been a resident of this State for at least 5
years before the award;

(2)  Have been approved for admission to the School of
Medicine;

(3)  Have financial needs and resources that meet the
requirements of the State Scholarship Board to assure that he has
a definite financial need; and

(4)  Furnish a surety bond to the State conditioned
that[, after graduation, and any desired period of internship and
residency, he will, for at least 3 years:

(i) Engage in the family practice of medicine
in an area determined by the Secretary of Health and Mental
Hygiene, in consultation with the Medical and Chirurgical Faculty
of Maryland, to have an acute need for physicians in family
practice; or

(ii) Accept State employment as a medical
doctor.]:

(I)  FOLLOWING GRADUATION FROM MEDICAL SCHOOL,
THE RECIPIENT WILL ENTER A FAMILY PRACTICE RESIDENCY PROGRAM; AND

(II)  IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING COMPLETION OF THE
RESIDENCY PROGRAM, THE RECIPIENT WILL FOR AT LEAST 3 YEARS ENGAGE
IN THE FAMILY PRACTICE OF MEDICINE IN AN AREA DETERMINED BY THE
SECRETARY OF HEALTH AND MENTAL HYGIENE, IN CONSULTATION WITH THE
MEDICAL AND CHIRURGICAL FACULTY OF MARYLAND, TO HAVE AN ACUTE
NEED FOR PHYSICIANS IN FAMILY PRACTICE.

(d) (1) Each year [10] -5- 2 medical scholarships shall be
awarded.

(2) Each medical scholarship:

(i) Is in the amount of [$1500] $3,000 7,500 a
year;

(ii) May be used for tuition, fees, and other
costs at the School of Medicine;
