AN ACT concerning
Election Code - Write-in Candidates
FOR the purpose of providing a definition of "write-in
candidate"; providing that a certificate of candidacy shall
be filed by a certain date by a write-in candidate or by a
committee authorized by the write-in candidate to promote
the write-in candidate's candidacy; providing that a
certificate of candidacy may not be filed later than a
certain time on the day preceding the day of a certain
election; and providing that the board of canvassers shall
transmit a statement of returns to certain candidates.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article 33 - Election Code
1-1.
(a) As used in this article the following terms shall have
the meanings indicated unless a contrary meaning is clearly
intended from the context in which the term appears:
(20) "WRITE-IN CANDIDATE" MEANS A PERSON WHOSE NAME
WILL NOT APPEAR ON THE BALLOT BUT WHO HAS FILED FILES A
CERTIFICATE OF CANDIDACY IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 4D-1 OF THIS
ARTICLE.

[(a) Any person or combination of two or more persons who
expends $51 or more to organize, promote, or assist in any manner
