HARRY HUGHES, Governor

1089

veto must be made, when the General Assembly is in
session, within 6 days after presentment, or, if the
General Assembly will adjourn within 6 days or has
adjourned, within 30 days after presentment. This
addition and the substitution, in subsection (c)(1) of
this section, of the reference to bills "that the
Governor vetoed" for bills "which failed to become
law", conform the statutory law to the practice that
has evolved since the 1974 amendment of Md.
Constitution, Art. II, § 17. See revisor's note to §
2-1511 of this subtitle.

In subsection (a) of this section, the reference to "a
permanent record" is substituted for the former
requirement for "a well-bound volume" since, in
practice, the records are not kept in bound volumes.

In subsections (b)(2) and (c)(2) of this section, the
word "[n]ear" is substituted for the former references
"opposite each chapter number or otherwise in
immediate connection therewith" and "in connection
with each such bill", for brevity and clarity.

Defined terms: "Bill" § 2-1508
"House" § 2-101 "Senate" § 2-101

2-1513. COPIES OF LAWS.

PROMPTLY AFTER A BILL BECOMES LAW, BUT BEFORE THE BILL IS
DELIVERED BY THE GOVERNOR TO THE CLERK OF THE COURT OF APPEALS,
THE GOVERNOR SHALL CAUSE A COPY OF THE BILL TO BE MADE, TO BE
CERTIFIED UNDER THE STATE SEAL, AND TO BE DELIVERED TO THE
DEPARTMENT OF LEGISLATIVE REFERENCE.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived
without substantive change from former Art. 41, §
82(a), except for the reference in that subsection to
compilation and indexing.

The clause "after a bill becomes law" is substituted
for the former clause "after the Governor approves
bills", which was misleading since that former clause
suggested that a copy of a bill, is made only if the
bill becomes law because the Governor approved the
bill. In light of this substitution, the former,
specific reference to delivery "with the bills which
become law without his approval" is deleted as
unnecessary.

Defined term: "Bill" § 2-1508

2-1514. PUBLICATION OF EMERGENCY PUBLIC LOCAL LAWS.
