GOVERNOR'S CITIZENS' COMMISSION
ON CRIME PREVENTION

WHEREAS, The reduction, prevention and control of crime and
delinquency in Maryland are a vital concern to the
citizens of the State of Maryland and law enforcement
officials; and

WHEREAS, The reduction of the fear of crime in Maryland is
necessary for the health, welfare, and safety of our
citizens; and

WHEREAS, The basic function of State, county and municipal
government is the protection and security of the public
safety; and

WHEREAS, Community crime prevention activities involving law
enforcement officers, the private sector, elected
officials, schools, civic associations, and private
citizens can reduce crime and the resultant fear of
crime; and

WHEREAS, Citizens should become aware of the many crime
prevention efforts in operation throughout the State
and should be encouraged to cooperate to the maximum
extent possible to expand these crime prevention
efforts and to initiate new approaches in the
prevention of crime and delinquency; and

WHEREAS, Citizens should be encouraged to make concerted
efforts to disseminate accurate crime prevention
information to community leaders, the religious
community, civic associations, neighborhood groups, and
businesses throughout this State; and
