2942 JOINT RESOLUTIONS
Law Day U.S.A.
FOR the purpose of requesting the Acting Governor to
designate a certain day in each year as Law Day U.S.A.
in celebration of cur democratic principles.
WHEREAS, The celebration of a day in dedication to the
principles of our democratic form of government furthers the
respect of the people for the rule of law; and
WHEREAS, Marylanders need to be reminded that our
government is dependent upon citizens' participation,
understanding, and voluntary compliance with the law; and
WHEREAS, Way 1 was established as an annual observance
of Law Day by Act of Congress in 1961; and
WHEREAS, The President of the United States, the
National Governors* Conference, and the Conference of Mayors
endorse nationally the celebration of Law Day; and
WHEREAS, The celebration of a day in honor of Law Day
to commemorate and support our independent courts, our laws,
and vital liberties in Maryland would be beneficial to our
citizenry; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
Acting Governor designate and dedicate May 1 of each year as
Law Day U.S.A.; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be sent to the
Acting Governor, the Honorable Blair Lee III; the Speaker of
the House, the Honorable John Hanson Briscoe; the President
of the Senate, the Honorable Steny H. Hoyer; the Chief Judge
of the Court of Appeals, the Honorable Robert Murphy; and
the President of the Maryland State Bar Association, Norwood
B. Orrick, 2 Hopkins Plaza, Suite 1800, Baltimore, Maryland
21201.
