(House Bill 1876)

AN ACT concerning

Montgomery County - Democratic Party Central Committee

MC 202-78

FOR the purpose of increasing the accountability of
Democratic party officials to their constituents in
Montgomery County by providing that certain members of
the Democratic central committee be elected from
legislative districts and the remainder be elected at
large; providing that any reference to the Democratic
Central Committee for Montgomery County or any portion

thereof__means the entire membership of the Montgomery

County Democratic Central Committee; relating generally
to the Democratic Central Committee in Montgomery
County; and clarifying language.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 33 - Election Code

Section 11-2(h)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1976 Replacement Volume and 1977 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article 33 — Election Code

11-2.

(h) In Montgomery County, there [shall be] ARE 19
members of the party central committees for the county. For
[the Democratic committee, the members shall be elected at
large. For the Republican] EACH committee, two members
[shall be] ARE elected from each of the legislative
districts that lie wholly within Montgomery County[,] AND
one member [shall be] IS elected from the Montgomery County
part of each legislative district which is partially within
Montgomery County[, the], THE remainder shall be elected at
large, and any vacancy in a seat held initially by a member
elected from a legislative district shall be filled by a
person residing in that district. FOR THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY,
THE MEMBERS OF THE PARTY CENTRAL COMMITTEE ELECTED FROM A

DISTRICT DO NOT COMPRISE A SEPARATE CENTRAL COMMITTEE FOR

THE PURPOSE OF FILLING A VACANCY IN ANY OFFICE. ANY

REFERENCE TO THE DEMOCRATIC CENTRAL COMMITTEE FOR MONTGOMERY
COUNTY OR ANY PORTION THEREOF MEANS THE ENTIRE MEMBERSHIP OF
THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY DEMOCRATIC CENTRAL COMMITTEE. AND IN

NO EVENT DO THE MEMBERS OF THE CENTRAL COMMITTEE ELECTED

FROM A DISTRICT COMPRISE A SEPARATE CENTRAL COMMITTEE.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
