House Bill No. 932 - Schools - Number of School Days
AN ACT concerning
State Board of Education - Number of
School Days
FOR the purpose of providing the State Board of Education
with the right to reduce or waive the minimum number
of school days upon certain conditions; providing
for State continuation of funding under certain
circumstances; providing for a certain date that
this Act shall expire; and renumbering where
appropriate.

Dear Mr. Speaker:
In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the
Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill
932.
This bill, effective only for a one-year period,
authorizes the State Board of Education to reduce or
waive the required minimum number of school days. Such a
reduction or waiver is dependent upon written application
by a local board of education, and may be granted only in
certain cases involving severe weather conditions or
natural disaster.
Senate Bill 741, which was enacted by the General
Assembly and signed by Lieutenant Governor Blair Lee III
in his capacity as Acting Governor on April 12, 1977,
achieves the same purpose as House Bill 932. In
addition, the alternative remedies available to the State
