WHEREAS, The State of Maryland is presently in the
grips of the most severe winter of this century; and
WHEREAS, The extreme Extreme weather conditions have
wreaked havoc on the Chesapeake Bay fishing industry; and
WHEREAS, The harsh winter has placed heavy financial
burdens on utility users due to the increased usage that
is necessary; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That
the Governor is requested to appoint a task force to
study the effect of severe winter weather conditions on
the Chesapeake Bay fishing industries and the heavy
financial burdens of utility rates on utility customers
during extreme cold weather periods; in selecting the
task force the Governor is requested to appoint
representatives of the seafood industry, the utilities,
and affected groups; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the task force make recommendations
to the Governor as to how the fishing industry and
utility users may best cope with severe winter weather
conditions; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be sent to
the Honorable Marvin Mandel, Governor of Maryland; the
Honorable Steny Hamilton Hoyer, President of the Senate
of Maryland; and the Honorable John Hanson Briscoe,
Speaker of the House of Delegates of Maryland.
