(Senate Bill 704)
AN ACT concerning
Kent County - State's Attorney
FOR the purpose of increasing the Kent County State's
Attorney's salary a certain amount; providing that
the deputy State's attorney's salary in Kent County
shall be not less than a certain amount; and
providing that the salaries of the investigator and
the coordinator in the Kent County State's
Attorney's Office shall not be less than a certain
amount; prohibiting the salary alteration from
affecting the incumbent State's Attorney; clarifying
language; and relating generally to the application
of this Act salaries of the Kent County State's
Attorney and to members of that Office.
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
Article 10 — Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact
Section 40(o)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 40(o) of Article 10 - Attorneys at
Law and Attorneys in Fact, of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1976 Replacement Volume and 1976 Supplement) be
and it is hereby repealed and reenacted, with amendments,
to read as follows:
Article 10 — Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact
40.
(o) In Kent County, (1) the State's Attorney's
salary is [eight thousand dollars ($8,000). Beginning as
of January 1, 1975, the State's Attorney's salary shall
be twelve thousand dollars ($12,000).] $16,000.
(2) The State's Attorney may employ a deputy
State's attorney who shall be a member of the local bar
in good standing. The State's Attorney may also employ a
criminal investigator and an administrative coordinator.
The deputy State's attorney's salary shall be not less
than [$10,500] $12,000 and shall be set by the County
Commissioners of Kent County. [The County Commissioners
shall fix the compensation of the investigator and the
coordinator.] THE SALARIES OF THE INVESTIGATOR AND OF THE
COORDINATOR SHALL BE NOT LESS THAN $10,000 AND SHALL BE
SET BY THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS. The deputy State's
attorney, the investigator, and the coordinator shall
investigate cases, prepare the dockets, and perform such
