384) Montgomery County December 9.th 1784 Came the within Named John Thomas before us the Subscribers two of the Justices of the Peace for the County aforesaid and Acknowledged the within Instrument of Writing to be his Act and Deed and the Lands and Premises therein expressed to be the right and Estate of him the said Thomas Pleasants his Heirs and Assigns for Ever according to the true intent and meaning of the several Deed and the Act of Assembly in such Cases made and provided At the same time came Margaret Thomas the Wife of John Thomas and being by us privately Examined and out of the hearing of her said Husband Acknowledged her Right of Dower to the within mentioned Lands and Premises to be the right and Estate of him the said Thomas Pleasants his Heirs and Assigns for Ever and that she did the same freely and willingly without being Compelled thereto by any threats from her said Husband or for fear of his displeasure Taken and Acknowledged before Edw.d Burgess Joseph Wilson State of Maryland Montgomery County fs.t I hereby Certify That Edward Burgess and Joseph Wilson Gentlemen before whom the above Acknowledgment was made and who have thereto Affixed their Signatures were at the time of taking and affixing the same and still are two of the Justices of the Peace for the County aforesaid legally Authorised Commissioned and Assigned and to all Certificates by them taken and signed due faith and Credit is and ought to be given as well in Justice Court as thereout In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my Hands and Affixed the Public Seal of my office the 31.st day of May in the year Seventeen hundred and Eighty five (Seal) Brooke Beall Clk 8 sides of Montgomery County Court Recorded this 2.nd day of June 1785 Ex.d & Del.d This Indenture made this Eighth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty four Between Thomas Pleasants and Elizabeth his wife of the County of Goochland in Virginia of the one part and John Thomas of the County of Montgomery in Maryland of the other part Witnesseth that for and in Consideration of the sum of ten thousand pounds Current Money of Maryland in hand paid at or before the sealing and delivery of these Presents the receipt whereof they the said Thomas and Elizabeth Pleasants do hereby acknowledge and thereof do fully acquit and discharge the said John Thomas his Heirs Executors and Administrators Have granted bargained sold aliened Enfeoff'd and Confirmed and by these presents Do grant bargain Sell Alien Enfeoff and Confirm unto the said John Thomas his Heirs and Assigns for Ever All That Estate or several Tracts or Parcells of Land lying and being in the aforesaid County of Montgomery and County's Adjacent in the aforesaid State of Maryland formerly the property of James Brooke of the said County and by his last will and Testament bearing date the thirteenth day of February one thousand seven hundred and seventy did bequeath unto the said Elizabeth Pleasants including the Land and Plantation whereon Edward Penn now lives in the County of Anne Arundel the Land and Plantation whereof Edward Perry now lives in the County of Montgomery the Land and Plantation whereon Nicholas |
