231 Examinations and search must be before lading and the prohibited merchandizes must be stoped on the spot before they are embarked unless their is full evidence or proof of fraudulent practice on the part of the owner of the Ship or if him who has the command of her in which case only he shall be responsible and subject to the law of the country in which he may be In all other cases neither the subjects of either of the contracting parties who shall be with their Vessels in the ports of the other nor their Merchandizes shall be seized or molested on account of Contraband goods which they shall have wanted to take on board nor shall any king of embargo be laid on their ships subjects or citizens of the State whose merchandizes are declared contraband or the exportation of which is forbidden those only who shall have sold or intended to sell or alienate such Merchandizes being liable to punishment for such contravention Done at Paris the third day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty three Signed Gustav Philip Compte de Creutz (LS) B Franklin (LS) Now therefore to the end that the said treaty may with all good faith be performed and observed on the part of these States all the citizens and Inhabitants thereof and more especially all officers and others in the service of the United States are hereby enjoined and required to govern themselves strictly in all things according to the Stipulations above recited Done in Congress at Princeton this twenty fifth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty three and of our sovereignty and independence the eighth 48¾ sides Elias Boundinot president Charles Thomson secretary This Indenture made the twenty NInth Day of May in the year of our Lord one Thousand seven hundred and Eighty four Between John Nelson Gray of Ann Arundel County Gentleman of the one part and Nicholas Maccubbin of the City of Annapolis Cordwainer of the other part Witnesseth that the said John Nelson Gray for and in consideration of the sum of five Shillings Current money to him in hand paid at and before the ensealing and Delivery hereof the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath given granted bargained sold aliened enfeoffed and confirmed and by these presents doth give grant bargain sell alien enfeoff and confirm unto him the said Nicholas Maccubbin his heirs and Assigns for ever All that part of a Tract of Land called Piney Grove lying and being in the County aforesaid near the head of Maggoty River containing by estimation five hundred Acres of Land more or less together with all and singular the buildings Gardens Orchards Improvements conveniencies and all other advantages and Improvements thereunto belonging and the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders Rents Issues and Profits thereof and every part and parcel thereof To have and to hold the said part or parcel of Land and premisses with the Appurtenances unto him the said Nicholas Maccubin his Heirs and Assigns for ever and to or for no other use Intent or purpose whatsoever and the said John Nelson Gray for himself and his Heirs doth hereby further Covenant grant and agree to and with the said Nicholas Maccubbin his Heirs and Assigns that he the said John Nelson Gray and his Heirs the said hereby Demised premisses unto the said Nicholas Maccubbin his Heirs and Assigns for (ever) |
