88 On the Back side of the aforegoeing Indenture was written Viz.t Memor.n Came before us Philip Calvert Esq.r Chancelo.r and William Calvert Esq.r Secretary of this Province of Maryland two of his Lopps Justices of the Provinciall Court Sarah Gerrard wife to the within named Cap.t Justinian Gerrard who being privately Examined did voluntarily of ^her^ owne accord acknowledge her free Consent to the signeing and sealeing of the with^in^ Deed And that without any the least Constraint or Compulsion used to her by her said Husband or any other person whatsoever which said acknowledgem.t was taken this One and Thirtieth day of January in the fourth yeare of the Dominion of the Right ^Hon.ble^ Charles &c over this Province Annoq Domi One thousand six hundred seaventy Eight 8 sides Philip Calvert Will Calvert Durham fs Wee John Stabeld Esq.r Maior of the Citty of Durham and Francwelgate and the Aldermen thereof doe hereby Certifye unto the Right Hon.ble and most illustrious Lord the Lord Baltemore of Baltimore Absolute Lord and Proprietor of the Provinces of Maryland Avalon &c in America & to all others whome these presents shall or may Concerne that Thomas Haggleston a Black Vulgulary called Pipsire now inhabiting in Saint Maryes Citty in S.t Maryes County in Maryland sealed (as wee are Credibly informed and given to under hand) was Free borne of Black Parents att Sotherwick neare London in the Kingdome of England and there Baptized in the Christian Faith and was thence brought downe to the Citty of Durham by One M.r William Jordan a Late Alderman of this Citty where he was Baptized by a Romish Preist (his then Mistres being a Roman Catholicke) and that to our knowledge hee lived divers yeares with the said W.m Jordan as his servant or Apprentice in the Trade of working Tobacco) untill his death (he being then Mayor of this Citty) and that after his said Maisters death hee returned to London to his Mistries from whence the said Meister Jordan had him In Testimony whereof wee the said Maior and Aldermen have hereunto subscribed our names and affixed the Comon seale of the said Citty dated att Durham the Thirtieth day of December in the Twenty Ninth yeare of the Reigne of our soveraigne Lord King Charles the second that now is of England &c annoq Domini Sulo Angliæ one thousand six hundred seaven seaven John Stebeld Majo.r Thomas T Stephen Thompson W.m Blakiston John Hall Geo Shizer Jo Dulk Thomas Mascall Not publ John Peacock Know all men by these p.rsents that I Samuell Leadbeater of the City of Chester in England M.rchant have made Constituted ordained & appointed &c these p.rsents doe make ordaine constitute & appoint my trusty & well beloved friend John Hatch of Charles County in the Province of Maryland Gentl to be my true & lawfull Attorney for me & my use & in my stead & place to ask for sue demand recover & receive all such bills bonds accompts & demands whatsoever as I the said Samuell Leadbeater have left in the hands & custody of him the said John Hatch And in case of denyall or nonpaym.t of any or of all the said bills bonds accompts or demands either in whole or in part the same person or persons by whom the same shall be due to sue Arrest implead imprison & condemn And upon receipt thereof or any part thereof out of prison to release And an acquittance & release or other discharge in my name to give And to do & use all lawfull meanes & wayes for the gaining & recovering all such bills bonds accompts or demands that are due unto me And another Attorney or Attorneys for me & in my name to make constitute & appoint as to my said Attorney shall seem meet & convenient Hereby ratifying confirming and holding good all & every thing whatsoever my said Attorney shall lawfully doe in the p.rmisses as fully amply & as largely as if I my selfe were psonally present to act the same In Wittness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand & (seale |
