MONTGOMERY COUNTY

ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT OR INSTALLATION WHICH IS EQUAL OR
SUPERIOR TO SUCH STANDARDS AND REQUIREMENTS SHALL BE
DEEMED TO BE IN COMPLIANCE THEREWITH.

(C) EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE PROVIDED IN THIS
CHAPTER, CONFORMITY OF INSTALLATIONS OF ELECTRICAL
EQUIPMENT WITH SUCH REGULATIONS ADOPTED PURSUANT TO
SECTION 17-2(B) SHALL BE PRIMA FACIE EVIDENCE THAT SUCH
INSTALLATIONS ARE REASONABLY SAFE TO PERSONS AND
PROPERTY.

17-39. MOBILE HOMES, PREFABRICATED OR MODULAR DWELLINGS.

(A)    IT SHALL BE UNLAWFUL TO OCCUPY OR OFFER
TO SELL FOR OCCUPANCY ANY MOBILE HOME, PREFABRICATED OR
NODULAR DWELLING, BUILDING OR OTHER LIKE STRUCTURE AS
DEFINED IN THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE WITHOUT HAVING
FIRST OBTAINED FROM THE MANUFACTURER OF SUCH UNITS
CERTIFICATION THAT EACH IS IN COMPLIANCE WITH PROVISIONS
OF THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY ELECTRICAL CODE OR HAS BEEN
CERTIFIED BY THE STATE AS HAVING MET STANDARDS CONTAINED
IN STATE REGULATIONS ADOPTED PURSUANT TO ARTICLE 41, SEC.
266EE-3, ANNOTATED CODE OF MARYLAND, 1971 REPLACEMENT
VOLUME (1972 CUMULATIVE SUPPLEMENT).

(B)    THE DEPARTMENT MAY INSPECT MOBILE HOMES,
PREFABRICATED OR MODULAR DWELLINGS, BUILDINGS OR OTHER
STRUCTURES INTENDED FOR SALE OR USE IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY
AT THE PLACE OF MANUFACTURE AND PRIOR TO THE CONCEALMENT
OF ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS IN ANY SUCH MOBILE HOMES,
PREFABRICATED OR MODULAR DWELLING, BUILDING OR OTHER
STRUCTURE. THE DIRECTOR MAY AUTHORIZE ELECTRICAL
INSPECTIONS OF MOBILE HOMES, PREFABRICATED OR MODULAR
DWELLINGS BY A QUALIFIED INSPECTOR EMPLOYED BY THE COUNTY
OR MEMBER OF THE BOARD.

(C)    EVERY MANUFACTURER OF MOBILE HOMES,
PREFABRICATED OR MODULAR DWELLINGS, BUILDINGS OR OTHER
STRUCTURE, BUILDING OR MANUFACTURING SUCH DWELLINGS,
BUILDINGS OR OTHER STRUCTURES NOT CERTIFIED BY THE STATE
FOR SALE IN MARYLAND BUT INTENDED FOR SALE OR USE IN
MONTGOMERY COUNTY SHALL, PRIOR TO THE CONCEALMENT OF
ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS IN SUCH DWELLINGS, BUILDINGS OR
OTHER STRUCTURES, GIVEN WRITTEN NOTICE TO THE DEPARTMENT
OF THE MANUFACTURE OF SUCH DWELLING, BUILDINGS OR OTHER
STRUCTURES. THE DEPARTMENT SHALL, UPON RECEIPT OF SUCH
NOTICE, NOTIFY THE MANUFACTURER OF A SCHEDULED INSPECTION
TO AUTHORIZE THE CONCEALMENT OF THE ELECTRICAL
INSTALLATION.

(D)    AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE PROCEDURE
PRESCRIBED BY SUBSECTION (C) ABOVE, THE MANUFACTURER MAY
REQUEST INSPECTION BY UNDERWRITERS' LABORATORIES, INC.,
CERTIFICATION BY UNDERWRITERS' LABORATORIES, INC. THAT
