WHEREAS, the shellfish industry has already undergone serious impairment
and economic dislocation as a result of natural disasters, and is also subjected to
numerous regulatory restrictions not imposed upon foreign-produced shellfish; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
General Assembly hereby expresses its strong disapproval of the proposed
Korean-United States shellfish agreement or any similar agreement which will
cause unnecessary hardship and economic damage to the shellfish industry of
Maryland and the United States; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the General Assembly of Maryland urges the President of
the United States to prevent the conclusion of any agreement as herein described;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Joint Resolution be sent to the President of
the United States, the Secretary of State of the United States and all members of
the U. S. Senate and the U. S. House of Representatives from Maryland.

Senate Joint Resolution requesting [[the Joint Committee on Budget and Audit
to]] an appropriate standing House of Delegates or Senate Committee of the
Legislative Council study the feasibility of consolidating the historical and cultural
agencies of the State under a Division or Department of Historical and Cultural
Affairs.
WHEREAS, There has been an increase in the number of historical and
cultural agencies in the Executive Branch of Maryland government; and
WHEREAS, These cultural agencies are the Hall of Records Commission,
Maryland Historical Trust, Commission for Negro History and Culture, Capital
City Commission, War Memorial Commission, St. Mary's City Commission,
Bi-Centennial Commission, Maryland State Library, Maryland Environmental
Trust (Keep Maryland Beautiful), Commission on Artistic Property, Maryland
Arts Council and the State House Trust; and
WHEREAS, These agencies work closely with private agencies, such as the
Maryland Historical Society, Historic Annapolis, Inc., and others; and
WHEREAS, Greater efficiency and economy might be attained by
consolidating all these agencies under a unified Division or Department of
Historical and Cultural Affairs; now therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That
[[the Joint Committee on Budget and Audit of the General Assembly of
Maryland]] an appropriate standing House of Delegates or Senate Committee of
the Legislative Council be requested to study the following aspects of the Maryland
Program for Historical and Cultural Affairs:
