CHAPTER 863
(House Bill 1344)

AN ACT to repeal Section 211(c) of Article 48A of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1972 Replacement Volume), title "Insurance Code," subtitle "14.
Unauthorized Insurers," to repeal the exemption of certain life insurance
companies in relation to unauthorized insurers[[.]] ,and to make the effective
date of this act July 1, 1976.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 211(c) of Article 48A of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1972 Replacement Volume), title "Insurance Code," subtitle "14.
Unauthorized Insurers." is hereby repealed.

211.

[(c) This subtitle shall not apply to any life insurance company organized and
operated, without profit to any private shareholder or individual, exclusively for
the purpose of aiding educational or scientific institutions organized and operated
without profit to any private shareholder or individual by issuing insurance and
annuity contracts direct from the home office of the company and without agents
or representatives in this State only to or for the benefit of such institutions and to
individuals engaged in the services of such institutions provided such company
agrees to appoint the Commissioner, and his successors in office, as its attorney to
receive service of legal process issued against it in Maryland, such appointment to
be irrevocable and to bind the company and any successor in interest and to
remain in effect as long as there is in force in this State any contract made by the
company or any obligation arising therefrom: nor shall the provisions of this
subtitle apply to any life, disability or annuity contracts issued by such life
insurance company, provided such contracts otherwise comply with the statutes. ]

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take
effect July 1, [[1973]]. 1976

CHAPTER 864
(House Bill 1363)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 98 of Article 43 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume and 1972
Supplement), title "Health," subtitle "Tuberculosis," and to repeal and re-enact,
with amendments, Sections 598, 599, 601 (b), (c), (c-1), (e), (f), and 603 (a) and
(f) of the same Article and title of the Code, subtitle "Chronic Hospitals and
Infirmaries," to change the term "tuberculosis hospital" to "health center for
the treatment of tuberculosis," and to change the terms "chronic hospitals and
infirmaries" and "chronic hospitals" to "chronic disease centers."

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 98 of Article 43 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
