Executive Department," subheading "Governor," to follow im-
mediately after Section 46 thereof, to provide that all inter-state
compacts shall be kept for public record in the office of the
Secretary of State.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 46A be and it is hereby added to Article 41 of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume), title
"Governor—Executive and Administrative Departments," subtitle
"1 The Executive Department," subheading "Governor," to read
as follows:

46A.

All inter-state compacts shall be kept for public record in the
office of the Secretary of State.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1972.

CHAPTER 469
(Senate Bill 847)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 40 (p)
of Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1971 Supple-
ment), title "Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact," subtitle
"State's Attorney," to provide, in Montgomery County, for the
salaries of the deputy State's attorneys, assistant State's attor-
neys, and special investigator; to provide for the number of
deputy State's attorneys; to remove obsolete language; and gen-
erally relating to the State's Attorney for Montgomery County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 40 (p) of Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1971 Supplement), title "Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in
Fact," subtitle "State's Attorney," be and it is hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

40.

(p) In Montgomery County, (1) the State's Attorney's salary is
thirty thousand dollars ($30,000) per annum. The State's Attorney
shall devote his full time and attention to the duties of his office
as State's Attorney and shall not engage in the private practice of
law at any time in any jurisdiction during his tenure of office.

(2) The State's Attorney may appoint [a] two deputy State's
[attorney] attorneys and eleven assistant State's attorneys. The
deputy [State's attorneys salary] and assistant State's attorneys'
salaries
shall be determined by the State's Attorney in his discre-
tion, but shall not exceed twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000).
[The assistant State's attorney's salaries shall be determined by
the State's Attorney in his discretion, but none shall exceed twenty-
