The trustees may appoint from without their number a [director]
Director of the Maryland Historical Trust and other employees and
assistants, to direct and administer the activities of the Trust subject
to the direction and control of the trustees. [The director shall be
considered an employee of the Trust and not of the State of Mary-
land and shall serve at such salary and may employ other persons at
such salaries as are determined by the trustees.} The Director and
other employees are deemed to be UNCLASSIFIED employees of the
State of Maryland; but the provisions of Article 64A of the Maryland
Code (Merit System) shall not apply to these employees, AND THEIR
SALARIES SHALL BE SET BY THE SECRETARY OF PERSON-
NEL AFTER CONSULTATION WITH THE SECRETARY OF
ECONOMIC AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND THE
TRUSTEES. The Director and other employees of the Trust shall
serve at the will of the trustees. The trustees may remove the direc-
tor and any other personnel at their will.

The Trust is authorized to receive from time to time gifts, grants,
devises, and bequests of money or property to be administered for
any of the purposes of this subtitle from any federal or other govern-
mental agency, public or private corporation or association, or indi-
vidual and the State of Maryland is authorized to pay over and
transfer to the Trust from time to time, monies or property to carry
out the purpose of the Trust, provided that property transferred by
the State to the Trust or purchased with funds paid by the State to
the Trust and designated for such purchase may not be absolutely
disposed of by the Trust without the approval of the Board of Public
Works of the State of Maryland.
Sec. 2. And, be it further enacted, That the provisions of this Act
shall be effective from the effective date of Chapter 620 of the Acts
of 1961, only to the extent necessary to legalize, regularize, or legiti-
mize any exercise of power heretofore by the Maryland Historical
Trust, which exercise of power would be valid and legal under the
provisions in this Act from and after July 1, 1971.
Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1971.

(Senate Bill 141)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 37 (p)
of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1969 Replace-
ment Volume and 1970 Supplement), title "Sheriffs," subtitle
"Compensation and Duties," providing the Sheriff of Prince
George's County with a maximum of $1500 $1,000 per year for
expenses for the use and work of his office and giving all deputies
