(g) In Somerset County, the clerk of the board shall receive an
annual salary of $700.

(h) In Wicomico County the clerk of the board shall receive an
annual salary of $800.00. There also shall be a position of assistant
clerk to the board with an annual salary of $500.00. The salaries
of the clerks shall be paid in equal quarterly installments by the
County Council of Wicomico County; provided, however, that in the
event of special elections or special services rendered, the County
Council shall, at the request and recommendation of the board, allow
additional compensation as they may deem commensurate with the
special services rendered. There shall also be the position of secretary
to the board, at a salary and with such duties as established by the
board from time to time.

(i) In Worcester County, the clerk of the board shall receive an
annual salary of $800.00.]

[2-6A. Clerk-stenographers in Allegany County.

(a)   In Allegany County the board of supervisors of elections shall
appoint two clerk-stenographers. One of the clerk-stenographers shall
be a member of the political party whose candidate for Governor
received the highest number of votes at the last preceding guberna-
torial election, and the other shall be a member of the political party
whose candidate for Governor received the second highest number
of votes at the last preceding gubernatorial election.

(b)  The position of clerk-stenographer created by subsection (a)
of this section is included in the classified service of Allegany County
with a Title 2 classification, and, in the event that the classified serv-
ice or its titles are changed, the clerk-stenographer shall receive com-
pensation equal to that received by Allegany County employees per-
forming the same or a comparable type of work, with the same or a
comparable degree of responsibility.]

Subject to the provisions of Article 64A, Annotated Code of Mary-
land,
OR, IN THE CASE OF A BOARD COVERED BY A LOCAL
MERIT SYSTEM AS PROVIDED IN ARTICLE 64A, SECTION
9E (F), SUBJECT TO THE RULES AND REGULATIONS OF
THE PERSONNEL OFFICIALS OF THE COUNTY IN WHICH
THE BOARD IS LOCATED, each board has the power to appoint
and remove, clerks, registrars, voting machine custodians, stenog-
raphers, and other employees.
WHO SHALL BE REGISTERED
VOTERS OF THE STATE OF MARYLAND. During the time of
acting in any capacity under this section, no employee shall hold
ANY PUBLIC OR PARTY OFFICE or be a candidate for any
public or party office; use his official authority or influence for the
purpose of interfering with or affecting the result of an election;
or take an active part in political management or in political cam-
paigns.

PROVIDED THAT NOTHING IN THIS SECTION SHALL BE
CONSTRUED TO APPLY TO ELECTION JUDGES, WHATEVER
THEIR TITLE MAY BE, OR TO ATTORNEYS TO THE ELEC-
TION BOARDS.
