be printed on the ballots or ballot labels to be used at the special
election a full or an abbreviated version of the title of this Act
and underneath or opposite the title, a square or box with the words
"For Elected School Board," and a corresponding square or box
with the words "Against Elected School Board," so that any quali-
fied voter of the county may designate his vote for or against the
provisions of this Act. If a majority of the votes cast on this ques-
tion in the special election are cast "For Elected School Board,"
the provisions of this Act shall become effective immediately. If a
majority of the voters cast on this question in the special election are
"Against Elected School Board," the provisions of this Act are of no
further effect and void.
Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That subject to provisions of
Section 2 hereinabove this Act shall take effect on June 1, 1970.

(House Bill 1426)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 2-3(a)
of Article 33 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1969 Supple-
ment), title "Election Code," subtitle "Election Boards and Em-
ployees," to increase the salaries of the chairman and associate
members of the Board of Elections for Howard County.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 2-3 (a) of Article 33 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1969 Supplement), title "Election Code," subtitle "Election Boards
and Employees," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:
2-3. Compensation of board members.
(a) Each member of the boards of the several political subdivi-
sions of the State shall receive an annual salary of not less than the
following amounts:
(1) Allegany County: $1,080.
(2) Anne Arundel County: $1,800.
(3) Baltimore City: $5,000; such salaries shall be established
in the annual ordinance of estimates but shall not be less than as
provided herein.
(4) Baltimore County: The chairman of the board shall re-
ceive such annual compensation as may be included in the county
budget from time to time but, in no event, to be less than $4,000 per
annum. The associate members of the board shall receive such an-
nual compensation as may be included in said budget from time to
time but, in no event, to be less than $3,000 per annum.
(5) Calvert County: $500.
