2632                               Municipal Charters

DIVISION II. ELECTRICAL BOARD GENERALLY

Sec. 83-33. Created; Composition.

There is hereby created a board of electrical examiners composed
of five (5) voting members, residents of the county, constituted as follows:

(a)    One member shall be an electrical contractor.

(b)    Three members shall be active at the time of their appointment,
or shall have had previous experience, as an electrical contractor, electrical
contractor limited, as an electrical engineer, or shall otherwise be tech-
nically qualified to determine proficiency in the electrical field.

(c)     One member shall represent the general public.

(d)    A member of the office of the Montgomery County fire marshal
and a member of the office of the department of inspection and licenses
shall be assigned as ex officio non-voting members of the board.

(e)    The chairman of the board shall be designated by the council.
If the council does not designate a chairman, the board shall elect its own
chairman. The board shall select a vice-chairman and such other officers
as it may desire. The vice-chairman shall, in the absence of the chairman,
assume all the duties and responsibilities of the chairman.

Sec. 83-34. Appointment and Terms of Members.

Original members of the board shall be appointed by the county
council for terms expiring one, two and three years, respectively, as
designated by the county council at the time of appointment. All appoint-
ments to the board thereafter shall be for a term of three (3) years,
except, that any member appointed to fill a vacancy occurring prior to
the expiration of a term shall be appointed for the remainder of that term.

Sec. 83-35. Compensation of Board Members.

As compensation, each member of the board shall be paid at such
rate as the county council shall affix from time to time by resolution.

Sec. 83-36. Staff.

The county shall make available to the board such services and facili-
ties of the county as are necessary or appropriate for the proper perform-
ance of its duties, and the county attorney shall serve as counsel to the
board.

Sec. 83-37. Reciprocity.

The board of electrical examiners may certify to the director any
applicant as qualified to be licensed, without examination by the board,
if such applicant is currently licensed in another jurisdiction in the State
of Maryland, the District of Columbia, or Virginia, which jurisdiction has
examinations and qualification procedures which have been found by the
board to be equivalent to those required for licensing in Montgomery
County, Maryland and which grants similar reciprocity to Montgomery
County licensees.

Sec. 83-38. Existing Licenses.

The board of electrical examiners may renew licenses under this
chapter, without new examination, to any applicant who at the effective
date of this act held an existing Montgomery County electrical contractor's
