Charities," to prohibit the identification of any police department
in connection with any charitable campaigns or drives without the
prior written consent of the respective Chief of Police, and matters
generally relating thereto "FRAUD—MISREPRESENTATIONS
IN FUND RAISING CAMPAIGNS," TO MAKE IT UNLAWFUL
TO IDENTIFY ANY POLICE DEPARTMENT OF THIS STATE
WITH A FUND RAISING CAMPAIGN OR DRIVE WITHOUT
FIRST OBTAINING THE WRITTEN CONSENT OF THE
CHIEF ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER OF SUCH POLICE DE-
PARTMENT AND TO PROVIDE A PENALTY FOR VIOLA-
TION THEREOF.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 220 233A be and it is hereby added to Article 25 27
of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1966 1967 Replacement Volume),
title "County Commissioners," "CRIMES AND PUNISHMENTS,"
to follow immediately after Section 219 233 thereof, to be under the
new subtitle "Police Department—Charities," "FRAUD—MISREP-
RESENTATIONS IN FUND RAISING CAMPAIGNS," to read as
follows:

"FRAUD—MISREPRESENTATIONS IN FUND RAISING
CAMPAIGNS"
233A.
No police department of any jurisdiction of this State shall be
directly or indirectly identified with any solicitation, fund raising,
charitable or other campaigns, without the prior written consent of
the respective Chief of Police of said Police Department. Violation
of this section shall be punishable by fine of not more than $100.00
for each such violation.
IT SHALL BE UNLAWFUL FOR ANY PERSON, FIRM, COR-
PORATION OR SIMILAR ORGANIZATION TO ENCOURAGE
OR TO SOLICIT DONATIONS OR CONTRIBUTIONS OF MONEY
OR OTHER ITEMS OF VALUE TO A CHARITABLE OR OTHER
FUND-RAISING CAMPAIGN BY REPRESENTING EITHER TO
THE PUBLIC OR TO PROSPECTIVE DONORS THAT SUCH
CAMPAIGN HAS THE APPROVAL OR SANCTION OF ANY
POLICE DEPARTMENT OF ANY JURISDICTION WITHIN THIS
STATE UNLESS THE WRITTEN CONSENT TO THE MAKING
OF SUCH A REPRESENTATION IS FIRST OBTAINED FROM
THE CHIEF ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER OF THE POLICE
DEPARTMENT CONCERNED OR HIS DESIGNEE. NOTHING
HEREIN SHALL BE CONSTRUED TO PROHIBIT OR HINDER
THE PARTICIPATION IN FUND RAISING CAMPAIGNS OF
OFF-DUTY POLICEMEN NOT IN UNIFORM. VIOLATION OF
THIS SECTION SHALL CONSTITUTE A MISDEMEANOR, AND,
UPON CONVICTION THEREOF, SHALL BE PUNISHABLE BY
A FINE OF NOT MORE THAN ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS
($100.00) FOR EACH VIOLATION.
