times a year. The State Archaeologist shall attend all Advisory
Committee Meetings.

110-1.

It shall be the duty of the Committee to advise the Maryland
Geological Survey on archaeological matters and to formulate rules
and regulations regarding archaeological matters for review and
promulgation by the Commission.

1103.

The functions and purposes of the Division of Archaeology are
as follows:

(1)  To sponsor, engage in, and direct fundamental research into
the archaeology of this State and to encourage and coordinate
archaeological research and investigation undertaken by any scien-
tific or historical institution or society, museum, or institution of
higher education in this State.

(2)  To cooperate in the excavation of sites of historical or archae-
ological significance which have or may come into the custody or
control of any other agency of this State.

(3)   To protect and encourage the preservation of prehistoric
or historic sites located on privately owned lands in this State.

(4) To retrieve and preserve objects of an archaeological signifi-
cance discovered during the course of any public construction in
this State.

(5)   To cooperate with and assist museums, institutions of higher
education and scientific or historical institutions and societies, in
the preservation and protection of objects and materials of archaeo-
logical nature which are in their custody.

(6)  To make available to museums, institutions of higher educa-
tion and scientific or historical institutions and societies objects and
materials suitable for demonstrating the archaeological history of
this State.

(7)  To make available to public and private schools in this State
exhibits and to assist in the instruction of pupils as to the manner
of life of the early settlers and natives of the State of Maryland.

(8)   To cooperate with similar agencies of other states for the
general purpose of preserving archaeological sites and objects and
materials of archaeological significance and to prevent the exploita-
tion of such sites, objects and materials within this State by insti-
tutions or agencies of other states.

(9)   To disseminate archaeological facts and materials through
the publication of reports of archaeological research and investiga-
tion.

(10)  To enforce the laws regulating archaeological sites, objects
and materials on State owned or State controlled lands.

The Maryland Geological Survey Commission from time to time
may adopt and promulgate reasonable rules and regulations regards
