Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 170 of Article 48 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1965 Replacement Volume), title "Inspections," subtitle "Boiler
Rules," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:
170.
The present State boiler inspectors shall be retained in office by
reason of their having qualified by passing the competitive State of
Maryland boiler inspector's examination given by the State Commis-
sioner of Personnel, and have been and are now employed as State
boiler inspectors.
The senior boiler inspector shall be the chief boiler inspector. At
any time thereafter the office of the chief inspector shall become
vacant the employment commissioner shall, as soon as practical,
conduct a competitive [promotional] examination [open to the pres-
ent employees of the boiler inspection department only, who shall
have had at the time of taking the competitive examination for chief
boiler inspector not less than ten years' practical experience in the
design, construction or operation of high pressure boilers as a me-
chanical engineer, steam engineer, boilermaker or boiler inspector]
in accordance with the State Merit System Law.
The examination to be the same or equivalent to the examination
given by the Board of Boiler Rules for special inspectors in Section
174.
The Commissioner of Labor and Industry with the approval of
the Governor shall appoint from the successful candidates a chief
boiler inspector.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1967.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 89(3) of
Article 48A of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1964 Replace-
ment Volume), title "Insurance Code," subtitle "6. Investments
of Life Insurers," to correct a technical error therein.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 89(3) of Article 48A of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1964 Replacement Volume), title "Insurance Code," subtitle
"6. Investments of Life Insurers," be and it is hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
89.
(3) Nothing in this [section] subtitle shall prohibit an insurer
from acquiring control of another insurer.
