ographer. And the said County Commissioners of the several counties
are hereby directed and empowered to provide for the payment of
their several portions of the salary of the said stenographer at once on
presentation of said certificates. The several judges of the respective
circuit courts are authorized to provide for the employment of an
additional court stenographer or court stenographers, when in their
joint discretion the volume of work requires, at the same com-
pensation as provided above.
[(b) The said judges are hereby authorized and empowered to
employ such additional competent stenographic assistance as may,
in their sound discretion, be deemed necessary, the County Com-
missioners of the county for the benefit of which such additional
employment is made to pay the cost thereof at once upon the pres-
entation of the certificate of the Clerk of such county or of either
of said judges of said court certifying to the services of such addi-
tional court stenographer.]
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That Section 145 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Dorchester County (1961 Edition), being Ar-
ticle 10 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland, title "Dor-
chester County," as last amended by Chapter 27 of the Acts of the
Special Session of March 11, 1964, be and it is hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
145.
(a) The salary of said stenographer shall be eight thousand five
hundred dollars ($8,500) per year, said salary to be paid as follows:
The County Commissioners of Dorchester County, Wicomico County,
Somerset County and Worcester County shall each pay an [equal]
amount of the salary specified as directed and certified by the judges
of the circuit, said payments to be made in monthly installments
during the service, on the presentation of the certificate of the
[clerk of either county or of said] judges of said court, to the
County Commissioners certifying to the services of said court stenog-
rapher. And the said County Commissioners of the several counties
are hereby directed and empowered to provide for the payment of
their several portions of the salary of the said stenographer at once
on presentation of said certificates. The several judges of the re-
