Resolved, That copies of this resolution are sent to the United
States Senators and Congressmen from Maryland, to the Maryland
Port Authority and to the Army Corps of Engineers.

(Senate Joint Resolution 36)
Senate Joint Resolution requesting the Board of Public Works to
support the planning and organizing of a scientific and profes-
sionally-oriented university center.
Whereas, there is an expanding need for academic facilities to
train citizens in science-oriented and professional subjects primarily
beyond the graduate level in the Washington metropolitan area; and
Whereas, government agencies engaged in science, research and
development and technically-oriented industrial firms offer the poten-
tial support in these fields of facilities, equipment and a highly
qualified academic staff; and
Whereas, the Montgomery County University Foundation, a
Maryland corporation, has been formed to foster and organize a
University Center by integrating these facilities and skills; and
Whereas, the University Center will undertake its first course
work in the current year; now therefore, be it
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the Board
of Public Works is requested to make available to the Mont-
gomery County University Foundation by budget amendment an
amount not exceeding $25,000.00 for the purposes of planning and
organizing a scientific and professionally-oriented University Center
subject to:
(1) the review and approval of projects by the Maryland Ad-
visory Council for Higher Education; and
(2) such appropriations being matched on an equal basis by
grants of other governmental agencies, industry, private institutions,
or foundations.
