His Lordship	Command was given to the sher. of Kent
a^gt	County on the twentyeth day of March in the
Math^s. Pooley	twenty fifth year of Our Domⁿ &c in the year

of Our Lord seventeen hundred thirty & Eight that he come in his
proper person before the Justices of this County Court now held at
Our Court house in the Town of Chester in said County on the third tues:
:day of March bringing along with You Mathias Pooley of S^t pauls
Parish in the County afd Labourer by you taken & in your custodie
altho Sints detained as by the return of Our Writt in Our said County be:
:fore Our said Justices Appears to Answer unto a Certain Indictm^t.
for Assaulting John Hodges And that the said sher. have at the
time and place afd the said Writt &c And now here to wit at Kent
County Court at the Court house in the Town of Chester in said County
on the third tuesday of March being the twentyeth day of said month
in the year of Our Lord seventeen hundred thirty & eight Cometh
Simon Wilmer Gent. sher. of Kent County & makes return thereof
to the Court here thereon Indorsed in thes fol. Words to wit
Cepi Corpus p^r S Wilmer sher. of K^t. County Court
Kent County The Jurors for the right honourable the Lord prop^ry
that now is for the body of Kent County afd upon their Oath do p^rSent
that Mathias Pooley late of S^t. Pauls Parish in the County afd
Labourer the first day of May Anno Dom. seventeen hundred and
thirty eight at the parish afd in the County afd and within the Jurisdⁿ.
of this Court in & upon John Hodges against the peace of the said
Lord Prop^ry then and there being with force & Arms an Assault
did make and the same John then & there did beat wound & evilly
treat so that of his life it was greatly dispaired and other harms
to him then & there did to the great damage of the same John
