Lordship    We of the Grand Jury for Kent County do present
agt    David Crane for Assaulting John Ambrose
David Crane               Matthew Howard Foreman
Command was given to the sher. of Kent County on the fourteenth
day of Novemr. in the twenty fourth year of Our Domn. &c in the year of
Our Lord seventeen hundred thirty and eight that he should Immediately
take David Crane late of Kent County Carpender If he should be found
in his Bailwick and him safe keep so that he have his body Immedi:
:ately her before this Court to Answer unto a presentment for Assault
:ing & beating John Ambrose &c And that the said sher. have
at the time and place afd the said Writt And now here to wit
at Kent County Court at Kent County Court at the Court house in the
Town of Chester in said County on the third tuesday of Novemr. being
the fourteenth day of said month in the year of Our Lord seventeen
hundred thirty and eight Cometh Simon Wilmer Gent. sher. of Kent
County and made return thereof to the Court here thereon Indorsed
as fol. Vizt. Cepi Corpus pr Simon Wilmer sher. Kent County
Kent County fst. The Jurors for the right honourable the Lord
Propry that now is for the body of Kent County afd upon their Oath do
present that David Crane late of St. Pauls Parish in the County
afd Carpenter the ninteenth day of Novr. in the year of Our Lord
Christ Seventeen hundred thirty & eight at the Parish afd in the
County afd and within the Jurisdiction of this Court with force & Arms
in and upon John Ambrose in the peace of God & the same Lord
propry then and there being an Assault did make and him the said
John then and there did beat wound and evilly treat so that of his
life it was much dispaired and other harmes to him the said John
then and there did to the great damage of the same John and contrary
to the peace of the said Lord Propry his good rule & Government &c

And now here on the Back of the afd Indictment was Indors't
as fol. Vizt. Billa Vera Matthew Howard Foreman
And now here to wit at Kent County Court at the Court house in
the Town of Chester in said County on the third tuesday of November
being the fourteenth day of said month in the year of Our Lord One
thousand seven hundred and thirty Eight Cometh the afd Lord
propry by his Attorney afd And prayeth that the afd David to the
Indictment afd may Answer                  And the afd David in his pro:
:per Person comes and Defends the force and injury when &c And
saith that he cannot gainsay the Indictment afd so as afd agst.
him brought nor can he say but that he is guilty of the prsses
afd Above upon him Imposed as by the Indictment afd it is Alledged
