The proceedings of yesterday were read.

Mr. Kennedy presented the memorial of J. Mason Campbell,
asking compensation for professional services rendered to the
State;

Which was referred to the Committee on Claims.         

Mr. Partridge presented the petition of the heirs of Isaiah
Frost, late of Allegany county, praying the authorization and di-
rection of proceedings in the name of the State, against the Frost-
burg Coal Company, to inquire whether the franchises thereof
should be vacated under the Act of 1832, chapter 306 ;

Which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary.

Mr. Reichard presented the memorial of Thomas Harbine, pray-
ing compensation for services rendered in the trial of John Spaet,
indicted for murder in the Circuit Court for Frederick county;

Which was referred to the Committee on Claims.

The Speaker laid before the House a communication from the
Justices of the Orphan's Court for Prince George's county, in
pursuance of the Act entitled " An Act for the distribution of the
fund for the purpose of establishing free schools within certain
counties therein mentioned;"

Which was referred to the Committee .on Education.
Also, the following communication:

Hagerstown, January 7th, 1856.

To the Honorable the House of Delegates of Maryland:

I have the honor, in obedience to law, to report to your Hon-
orable Body, that I have paid into the Treasury of the State du-
ring the last two fiscal yeans, the aggregate sum of fourteen
thousand five hundred and ninety-eight dollars, and sixty-five
cents, as follows :                                                                         

For the year ending September 30, 1854........

$14,598 65

All of which is most respectfully submitted,                                 

Isaac Nesbitt, Clerk,

Circuit Court, Washington County.

Mem.—The sum of $87 80 of the last above year, being paid
in a few days after the close of the fiscal year, may not be inclu-
ded in the Comptroller's recent report, and may be carried to the
account of the present current year; and if so, then that amount
should be deducted, though it properly belongs to the last year,
