The State's Attorney of Charles County is authorized to appoint
an assistant State's Attorney and a secretary, the assistant State's
Attorney to receive a salary of $1,800.00 a year until June 1, 1957,
at which time the salary shall be $2,400.00 annually. The salary of
the secretary of the State's Attorney shall be $3,000.00 annually.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.

CHAPTER 593
(Senate Bill 503)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 108(18)
of Article 52 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition),
title "Justices of the Peace", sub-title "Trial Magistrates System",
providing for an increase in the annual salary of the trial mag-
istrate of St. Mary's County.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 108(18) of Article 52 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1957 Edition), title "Justices of the Peace", sub-title "Trial
Magistrates System", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:
108.
(18) St. Mary's County.—There shall be one trial magistrate
who shall sit at Leonardtown and who shall receive an annual salary
of [$900.00] $3,750.00. $3,200.00. The said trial magistrate may
direct the substitute trial magistrate hereinafter referred to, to sit
at such time and place as public convenience may necessitate.
The State's Attorney shall be available to attend trials before said
magistrate and to render such legal advice in criminal matters as
the said trial magistrate may request.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.
