CHAPTER 269

AN ACT to approve, confirm and ratify on the part of the State of
Maryland a Compact entered into by the State of Maryland and
the Commonwealth of Virginia at Mount Vernon, Virginia, on
December 20, 1958, and entitled "The Compact of 1958", by Com-
missioners earlier appointed by the respective Governors of Mary-
land and Virginia, establishing a joint Commission representing
the State of Maryland and the Commonwealth of Virginia to con-
serve and maintain the fishery resources of a portion of the
Potomac River, providing for the conservation, management and
control of the fisheries in the designated portion of the Potomac
River, establishing a system of licenses for the taking of fishery
resources from the River by citizens of both states, and relating
generally to the supply, management, control, conservation, taking
and use of the fishery resources in a portion of the Potomac River
between the State of Maryland and the Commonwealth of Virginia
and to the powers and duties of the said joint commission and of
the citizens of the two states with relation to these fishery re-
sources; and providing that "The Compact of 1958" be codified in
and become a part of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957
Edition), as Section 261A of Article 66C, title "Natural Re-
sources", subtitle "Fish and Fisheries", to follow immediately
after Section 261 thereof and to be under the new sub-heading
"Compact of 1958".
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That on the part of the State of Maryland "The Compact of 1958",
entered into by the State of Maryland and the Commonwealth of
Virginia at Mount Vernon, Virginia, on December 20, 1958, by Com-
missioners earlier appointed by the respective Governors of Maryland
and Virginia, is approved, confirmed and ratified, to be codified in
and become a part of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957
Edition), as Section 261A of Article 66C, title "Natural Resources",
sub-title "Fish and Fisheries", to follow immediately after Section
261 thereof, to be under the new sub-heading "Compact of 1958", and
to read as follows:

261 A. Terms of the Compact.
PREAMBLE
Whereas, Maryland and Virginia are both vitally interested in
conserving and improving the valuable fishery resources of the tide-
water portion of the Potomac River, and
Whereas, certain provisions of the Compact of 1785 between
Maryland and Virginia having become obsolete, Maryland and Vir-
ginia each recognizing that Maryland is the owner of the Potomac
