National Guard or Air National Guard, as appropriate, irrespective
of whether they have executed the oath prescribed by Section 25.

(c)  The organization of the Army National Guard of Maryland
and the Air National Guard of Maryland, including the composition
of all units thereof, shall be the same as that which is or may here-
after be prescribed for the Regular Army or Regular Air Force
respectively, subject in time of peace to such general exceptions as
may be authorized by the Secretary of the Army or the Secretary
of the Air Force.

(d)  Whenever the Army National Guard of Maryland and the
Air National Guard of Maryland, or any part thereof, has been
called or ordered into active military service of the United States
by the President, the Governor shall have the power to increase the
military force and to organize such units as the exigencies of the
emergency in his judgment may require.

25. Men enlisting in the organized militia shall take and sub-
scribe to the following oath of enlistment:

"I do hereby acknowledge to have voluntarily enlisted this............day

of...................................., 19............, in the (National Guard) (State Guard)

(Reserve Militia) of the State of Maryland for the period of............

year(s), under the conditions prescribed by law, unless sooner dis-

charged by proper authority. I,.................................., do solemnly swear (or

affirm) that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the United States
of America and to the State of Maryland; that I will serve them
honestly and faithfully against all their enemies whomsoever; and
that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and
the Governor of Maryland and the orders of the officers appointed
over me, according to law and regulations."

All officers of the organized militia of this state shall be empowered
to administer oaths of enlistment.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.

CHAPTER 405
(Senate Bill 400)

AN ACT authorizing and directing the Police Commissioner of Bal-
timore City to reinstate the late Patrolman James J. Purcell to
the rank of Sergeant, effective as of October 7, 1955.

Whereas, the late James J. Purcell was appointed as a member
of the Police Department of Baltimore City on June 8, 1939, and,
through outstanding work and devotion to duty, was promoted to
the rank of Sergeant on October 2, 1952; and

Explanation: Italics indicate new matter added to existing law.

[Brackets] indicate matter stricken from existing law.
