CHAPTER 91
(House Bill 259)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections 14 and
16 of Article 74 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition
AND 1956 SUPPLEMENT), title "Pilots", amending the laws
concerning the payment of pilots in this State and relating gen-
erally to the laws affecting pilots.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 14 and 16 of Article 74 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1951 Edition AND 1956 SUPPLEMENT), title "Pilots",
be and they are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments,
to read as follows:

14. No pilot shall charge or receive any greater or less reward
or compensation for his services as such than follows: for piloting
any vessel drawing thirteen feet of water or over from any port in
this State to sea or to the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal, or
coming from sea or from the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal and
bound to any river of this State and to any port thereof, or bound
from sea to the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal or from the Chesa-
peake and Delaware Canal to sea, or from the Chesapeake and
Delaware Canal to the boundary waters of the State of Virginia, or
from the boundary water of the State of Virginia to any port within
the State of Maryland, or from any port within the State of Mary-
land to the boundary water of the State of Virginia, or from the
Chesapeake and Delaware Canal to sea or to any port within the
State, [Seven Dollars and Fifty Cents ($7.50)] Eight Dollars and
Fifty Cents ($8.50) for each foot of water she may draw; for every
vessel drawing ten feet of water and less than thirteen feet [Six
Dollars ($6.00)] Seven Dollars and Fifty Cents ($7.50) for each
foot of water she may draw; for every vessel drawing less than ten
feet of water [Five Dollars and Fifty Cents ($5.50)] Six Dollars
and Fifty Cents ($6.50) for each foot of water they may draw.
The Board of Pilot Examiners shall establish rates for special
pilotage service, not contrary to the provisions of this Article. The
rates for any special pilotage service, however, shall not exceed
the rate established for pilotage under this Act. Vessels bound
from the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal and the Chesapeake Bay
to sea, or to the boundaries within the State of Virginia, or from
sea to the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal or from the boundary
waters of the State of Virginia to the Chesapeake and Delaware
Canal, shall pay double pilotage for this pilotage service.

16. If any master of any vessel shall carry any licensed pilot to
sea under circumstances beyond the control of the said licensed
pilot, the master of said vessel shall pay the said licensed pilot at
the rate of [Five Dollars ($5.00)] Seventy-Five Dollars ($75.00)
per day until the said pilot's return or death; he shall also provide
first class accommodations and maintenance and the said pilot shall
