48                          JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS                   [Mar. 8

As a free people we must defend our dearly won heritage of freedom
against all assaults. If we do not, the same fate will befall us that has
happened in so many of the formerly free nations of the world.

We are told that communism thrives on the miseries of the people.
This may be true in some nations, but how can we account for the many
so-called Americans, who align themselves with the communist front, in
our own country. These false Americans ride around in Cadillacs—draw
big salaries through the medium of their United Nations jobs, or so we
are told by the press and radio. What is their excuse for wanting to
trade our freedom for enslavement by the Bolsheviks? It is difficult to
imagine the reasoning of these traitorous Americans, because they are
traitors. One of the first precepts of communism is that the State is all
powerful, and that the individual is deprived of all rights, and must pay
blind adherence to his masters in the Kremlin. And they call that freedom.

We are here this afternoon to honor Poland as a nation. As long as
our. great nation is free, we can hold out hope to the Polish people, and to
other subjugated nations.

We all pray for the day when Poland will be really free. At the
same time, let us firmly resolve that this great nation of ours will remain
free. That is our job, and we must work at it every day in the year. I
repeat again—eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.

Which was read and ordered journalized.
