graphers", as said section was amended by Chapter 128 of the Acts
of 1951, be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:
289. Each of the Judges of the Seventh Judicial Circuit resident in
Prince George's County is hereby authorized to appoint a [stenog-
rapher for his official use. Each of said stenographers shall
hold his or her position at the pleasure of the Judge by whom
he or she is appointed, and shall receive compensation therefor
at a rate not exceeding Thirty-six Hundred Dollars ($3,600.00) per
annum. Such compensation shall be levied annually by the County
Commissioners of said county, and shall be paid as are the salaries
of other county employees, and charged to the expenses of the
Circuit Court for Prince George's County.] competent secretary who
shall have had some previous experience in secretarial work, involv-
ing duties that demonstrate the ability to take rapid dictation, typing,
and the exercise of independent judgment. Each of said secretaries
shall hold his or her position at the pleasure of the judge by whom he
or she is appointed, and shall receive compensation therefor upon the
following schedule of service:
A. for the first year's service, not exceeding $3,200.00 per annum.
B. for service of not less than one nor more than five years, not
exceeding $3,600.00.
C. for service of not less than five years nor more than ten years,
not exceeding $4,200.00.
D. for service of not less than ten years, not exceeding $5,000.00.
Such compensation shall be fixed by the judge by whom he or she is
appointed, shall be levied annually by the County Commissioners of
said County, and shall be paid as are the salaries of other county em-
ployees, and charged to the expenses of the Circuit Court for Prince
George's County.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1,1955.
