1240                             JOINT RESOLUTIONS

No. 2
(Senate Joint Resolution 4)

Senate Joint Resolution approving a deficiency appropriation to the
State Department of Public Welfare for fiscal 1955 in the amount
of $150,000.00 $400,000.00.

WHEREAS, during recent weeks there has been an alarming need
for supplemental appropriations to the State Department of Public
Welfare to take care of unforeseen conditions of necessity among the
citizens of Maryland, and

WHEREAS, the approval of the General Assembly of Maryland has
been requested for a deficiency appropriation to the Department of
Public Welfare for fiscal 1955 in the amount of $150,000.00
$400,000.00, and

WHEREAS, of this total sum the amount of $250,000.00 appears in
the regular Budget to be submitted to the General Assembly and the
amount of $200,000.00 $150,000.00 is to appear in a supplemental Bud-
get to be submitted to the General Assembly, and

WHEREAS, the total deficiency appropriation of $150,000.00
$400,000.00 is to meet increased needs for public assistance as follows:

Regular assistance categories.............................. $386,000.00

$336,000.00

General Public Assistance—Employables ........ 54,000.00

Special grant in Garrett County, General

Public Assistance—Employables .................. 10,000.00

Total............................................................ $450,000.00

$400,000.00

now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the approval
of this body is hereby given to a deficiency appropriation to the State
Department of Public Welfare for fiscal 1955 in the total amount of
$150,000.00 $400,000.00 according to the arrangements and for the
purposes specified in this joint resolution.
