CHAPTER 86.

An act for the relief of John Sullen, of Talbot
county.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, It has been represented to this Gen-
eral Assembly by the petition of John Bullen, crier
of Talbot county court, that in addition to the, usual
and ordinary duties appertaining to his office, he has
performed certain extra services, for which he has
received no remuneration, and a doubt having ex-
isted in the levy court, of the power of said court, to
levy for the use of the said John Bullen, a sum of mo-
ney as a compensation for his extra services:, And
whereas, It is but just and reasonable that every citi-
zen should be rewarded for his services, and this
General Assembly being satisfied of the truth of the
facts set forth in the petition: Therefore,

Levy court
may assess a
sum for his
benefit.

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the levy court of Talbot county
shall be, and they are hereby directed and empow-
ered, at their next levy, to assess and levy on the as-
sessable property of said county, such sum of money
for the use of the said Bullen, as they in their opinion,
shall deem a reasonable compensation for his extra
services as crier, in keeping up fires during court, and
in keeping the court room in proper order for the re-
ception of the court, during the year of seventeen
hundred and ninety nine, and from that time until the
end of the year eighteen hundred and nine, and that
the same be collected by the collector of Talbot
county, and paid to the said John Bullen or his order,
as other county charges are collected and paid.

CHAPTER 87.

Passed Dec.
19, 1812.

An act annulling the marriage of Elijah Shays, of
Cayuga county, State of New-York, and Rose
Shays, of Somerset county.

Marriage an-
nulled.

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the marriage of the said Elijah
Shays and Rose Shays, his wife, heretofore solemniz-
ed, be, and the same is hereby declared to be abso-
lutely and to all intents and purposes null and void;
and the said Elijah Shays and Rose Shays, his wife,
are hereby declared to be divorced a vinculo matri-

Proviso.

monii: Provided always, That nothing herein con-
tained shall be construed to illegitimate the children
of the said Elijah Shays and Rose Shays, his wife,
born prior to the passage of this act.
