Proviso.

confer on its deserving pupils and others who may merit
the same, all the collegiate honors and degrees that are
usually conferred in this State; Provided, that no col-
legiate or honorary degree shall be conferred on any pu-
pil of said institute until she shall have been first duly
examined and adjudged worthy of the same at a pub-
lic examination.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from the date of its passage, and that the legisla-
ture reserves the right to alter, amend or repeal this act
at pleasure.

CHAPTER 37.

Passed

Mar. 1, 1854.

AN ACT to suspend the operation for a limited period
of the sixth section of the act entitled, an act to pro-
vide for the election of Road Supervisors, in the sev-
eral counties of this State, passed at the session of
eighteen hundred and fifty-three, in the counties there-
in mentioned.

Authority to
increase com-
pensation.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the county commissioners of
Queen Anne's county and of Kent county, be, and
they are hereby authorised to increase the compensa-
tion of Road Supervisors in those respective counties,
beyond the amount now allowed under the sixth sec-
tion of the act, entitled, an act to provide for the elec-
tion of Road Supervisors in the several counties of this
State, passed at the session of eighteen hundred and
fifty-three, in the counties therein mentioned, for the
years eighteen hundred and fifty-four, and eighteen
hundred and fifty-five.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from its passage.
