CII.

IV. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said bond shall be lodged in the office of the clerk of Har-
ford county, to be there recorded, and upon such bond, or any office copy, suit or suits may be insti-
tuted for any breach or noncompliance with the condition thereof.

C H A P. CIII.

Passed 27th of
January, 1806.

An ACT to pay the civil list, and other expences of civil government

WHEREAS those who dedicate their time, abilities and labour, to the public, ought to receive
a reasonable and adequate compensation for their services;

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the following officers of civil go-
vermnent for the time being shall be entitled to receive at the rate of the following salaries, in
current money, for the ensuing year, to wit: The treasurer of the western shore, two thousand
dollars; the treasurer of the eastern shore, tour hundred and fifty dollars; the auditor, eight hun-
dred dollars; the clerk of the council, eight hundred dollars; the clerk of the senate, one hundred
and fifty dollars; the clerk of the house of delegates, three hundred dollars; the printer to the state,
twelve hundred dollars; the messenger to the council, two hundred and fifty dollars.

III. AND BE IT ENACTED, That all monies which shall remain in the treasury, after discharging
the journal of accounts, and all unappropriated money which may come into the treasury, be first
applied to the payment of the civil list for the ensuing year.
C H A P. CIV.

Passed 27th of
January, 1806.

An ACT to authorise the elders and trustees of the German evan-
gelical reformed church in Baltimore county to draw a lottery
within the city of Baltimore.

WHEREAS by an act, entitled, An act to erect Baltimore-town, in Baltimore county, into,
city, and to incorporate the inhabitants thereof, the drawing of lotteries within the said city
is confined to special purposes; therefore,

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That from and after the passage of this
act, it shall and may be lawful for the mayor and city council of Baltimore to authorise the aforesaid
elders and trustees to institute a, scheme of a lottery within the said city, consisting of one or more
classes, and to dispose of tickets in such lottery, for the purposes aforesaid, under such limitation
as the mayor and city council shall by ordinance direct and appoint, any thing in the said act to the
contrary notwithstanding; provided, that not more than twelve thousand dollars be raised by any
scheme in virtue of this act.
CHAP. CV.

Passed 25th of
January, 1806.

A Supplement to an act, entitled, An act to incorporate a company
to make a turnpike road to lead from the cross roads near Richard
Caton's limekiln, in Baltimore county, nearly in the direction of
Jones's Falls, to the city of Baltimore.

WHEREAS it has been represented to this general assembly, by the petition of the presided
directors and stockholders, of the Falls turnpike company, that the location as establish?
by the commissioners named in the act to which this is a supplement may be more streight, less ex-
pensive, and entirely out of the way of freshes, by altering the same; therefore,

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the said road shall, in crossing the Bare
Hills, be carried from a gum tree standing in the field of George Stephenson's, at the foot of the said
Bare Hills, and from thence, curving up the said hill, to a white oak near the top thereof, and thence
to a stake fixed by the commissioners on the descent, and on the north side of the said Bare Hills.

III. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said road shall, when it enters the land of Thomas Johnson
across Jones's Falls at Monk's old mill dam, and pass through the woodland of Thomas Johnson, on
the east side of Jones's Falls, to a large rock stone standing in the corner of Nicholas Ruxton Moore's
field, thence on the high ground to a stake standing on the east side of Thomas Johnson's meadow
thence to a marked white oak standing in the woods of said Johnson, thence to the west of a large
white oak standing on the south side of the old court road leading to Joppa, thence on the high
grounds, and in a streight line, through the field of Phineas Hunt, thence through the corner of John
