NOVEMBER. L A W S OF M A R Y L A N D.

CHAP.
III.

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the title of the real property law-
fully and fairly acquired by the aforesaid Thomas Webb, whether such title be derived by gift, grant,
purchase or devise, be and the same is hereby as amply and as fully vested in the person aforesaid,
to all intents and purposes, as if he had been naturalized agreeably to said laws; provided always,
that nothing in this act contained shall in any manner defeat or affect any right, title or claim, to
the said property, or any part thereof, acquired or prosecuted by any. person or persons whatever
before the passage of this act; and provided also, that unless the said Thomas Webb shall, on or
before the first day of July next, proceed, according to law, to make. himself a citizen of. the United
States, this act shall have no. effect to confirm his title to the property above mentioned, nor shall
he, or any. person claiming under him, derive any benefit under this act, but if the said Thomas
Webb shall die before the time when, by the laws of the United States, he may become a citizen
thereof, nothing in this proviso contained shall prevent him from transmitting or transferring his
said property, by descent or devise, to any issue he may leave residing within the United States,
who is hereby declared capable in law to hold the same, or to any other person, being a citizen of
the United States, capable in law to hold the same.

CHAP. IV.

An ACT for the relief of Benjamin Gushwa, Martin Rickart and
John Manning, of Washington county.

WHEREAS it is represented to tins general assembly, by the petition of Benjamin Gushwa,
Martin Rickart and John Manning, of Washington county, citizens of the United States,
that they have lately purchased three different pieces or parts of a tract of land called Povery In-
creased, and part of a tract called Poverty, lying in said county, of a certain Stephen Freeman:
And whereas some doubts have arisen as to the validity of the title of the said Benjamin Gushwa,
Martin Rickart and John Manning, to the said property, in as much as the said Stephen Freeman
was never naturalized agreeably to the laws of the United States; therefore,

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the title of the said Benjamin
Gushwa, Martin Rickart and John Manning, to the aforesaid pieces or parts of a tract; of land
called Poverty Increased, and part of a tract called Poverty, shall be and the same is hereby made
as perfect and complete, to all intents and purposes, as if the said Stephen Freeman had been natu-
ralized agreeably to the laws of the United States before the said purchase was made, any law of

this state to the contrary notwithstanding; provided always, that nothing in this act contained shall
in any manner defeat or affect any right, title or claim, to the said property, or any part thereof,
acquired or prosecuted by any person or persons whatever before the passage of this act.

III. AND, whereas the aforesaid John Manning having also obtained a patent from the state of
Maryland for another tract, called Spring Garden, and his title to the same being liable also to be
cabled in question, from his not being naturalized as aforesaid, BE IT ENACTED, That the title of
the said John Manning to the said tract of land called Spring Garden, be and the same is hereby as
amply and fully vested in him, to all intents and purposes, as if he had been naturalized agreeably
to the laws of the United States aforesaid; provided, that nothing contained in this act shall in
any manner defeat, or be construed to defeat, any right, title or claim, to the said tract of land, or
any part thereof, vested in, any other person or persons before the passage of this act.

C H A P. V.

An ACT to change the names of Jacob Sedgwick, Matthias Sedg-
wick, George Sedgwick and Christian Sedgwick, to the names of
Jacob Adreon, Matthias Adreon, George Adreon and Christian
Adreon.

WHEREAS Jacob Sedgwick, Matthias Sedgwick, George Sedgwick and Christian Sedgwick,
of Baltimore county, have petitioned this legislature that their names may be changed to the
names of Jacob Adreon, Matthias Adreon, George Adreon and Christian Adreon; and the prayer
of the petitioners being reasonable, therefore,

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That it shall and may be lawful for Ja-
cob, Matthias, George and Christian Sedgwick, after the passing of this act, to take upon them-
selves the surname of Adreon, and also for the descendants of them the said Jacob, Matthias, George
and Christian, to take on themselves the surname of Adreon; and the name of the said Jacob, Mat-
