CHAPTER 260
(House Bill 569)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 96
of Article 19 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland
(1930 Edition), title "St. Mary's County", sub-title "Leonard-
town", eliminating the word "male" in prescribing the quali-
fications for voters in the Town of Leonardtown, in St.
Mary's County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land,
That Section 96 of Article 19 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "St. Mary's County",
sub-title "Leonardtown", be and it is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

96. The [male] citizens living within the corporate limits
of "The Commissioners of Leonardtown", above twenty-one
years of age, who shall have resided in the town for the space
of four months, and twelve months in the State of Maryland
next preceding the election, and shall be at the time a citizen
of the United States, together with residents of St. Mary's
County owning real estate within said corporation, and possess-
ing all the above prescribed qualifications, except residing in
said town, shall elect by ballot on the first Tuesday in May
in the year [1914] 1952, two discreet persons who shall have
resided within the limits of said corporation for at least twelve
months next preceding the election, to succeed those whose
terms expire in the year [1914] 1952 as heretofore provided,
and on the first Tuesday in May, [1915] 1953, three discreet
persons who shall have resided within the limits of said corpo-
ration for at least twelve months next preceding the election,
to succeed those whose terms shall expire in [1915] 1953 as
heretofore provided; and on the same day in each year there-
after alternately two and three discreet persons with the above
qualifications to act as commissioners of said town. The elec-
tion to be. held at the Court House or some other suitable and
convenient place in the limits of said corporation, to be desig-
nated-by the Commissioners of Leonardtown.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1951.
