No. 34.

Passed March
1, 1844.

Resolution in favor of Cassandra Sappington.

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the Treasurer of the State of Maryland be, and he is here-
by authorized, to pay to Cassandra Sappington, of Har-
ford county, widow of Doctor Richard Sappington, who
was a surgeon in the revolutionary war, or to her order in
quarterly payments, commencing with the first day of
January eighteen hundred and forty-four, a sum of money
equal to the half pay of Surgeon, during her life, as a
further remuneration for the services of her deceased hus-
band.

Resolution in favor of the Chaplains.

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the Treasurer of the Western Shore, pay to the Rev'd.
Mr. Winslow, Chaplain of the Senate, and to the Rev'd.
Mr. Merriken, Chaplain of the House of Delegates, or
their respective orders, each the sum of one hundred dol-
lars, as compensation for their services during the present
session.

Resolution in relation to William J. Belt, of Prince
Georges county.

Whereas it appears to this general assembly that
commander William J. Belt, of Prince. Georges county,
was dismissed the Naval service of the United States, by
the sentence of a court martial, in the year eighteen hun-
dred and forty-two, after having received in the defence
of his country many and severe wounds, and been sub-
jected to numerous privations and sufferings; and it fur-
ther appearing to this general assembly by the testimony
of several officers of the Navy, that the said commander
William J. Belt, up to the period of the accusation against
him, deservedly enjoyed the reputation of a faithful, gal-
lant and accomplished officer, and that his dismissal from
